In 2020, Smiths Group announced the separation of Smiths Medical. Following this, the newly independent entity required a new name and brand. After considerable thought, the name Sovos was chosen for the business in 2021. Our team was tasked with designing Sovos's brand guidelines. We accomplished this in collaboration with an external vendor in just six weeks.
Collaboration is the key to ensure a successful delivery
I played an essential role in the rebranding team, which included conceptualising logos, defining the colour palette, and designing the visual style for both digital and print material. We also took steps to ensure the new brand was forward-thinking and inclusive by incorporating the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and the guidance from the Americans with Disabilities Act into our color combinations and font choices.
Overcoming adversity to gain recognition
Our team successfully delivered the first version of the Sovos brand guidelines on schedule. This comprehensive 47-page document served as a foundation for future updates as the brand evolved. Just a week after the guidelines were launched, Smiths Medical was acquired by ICU Medical. Despite this, our efforts were acknowledged by senior leadership, resulting in a CEO Excellence Award.
